The perception of teaching as a profession: The attitudes of teachers and the public
SABÁČKOVÁ, Kristýna
The diploma thesis deals with the perception of the teaching profession through the eyes of selected teachers of the 2nd level of primary school and at the same time brings information about the view of the teaching profession by the addressed representatives of the public. In the theoretical part, on the basis of professional literature, information is processed concerning the teaching profession and the current situation in education in terms of the prestige of the teaching profession, feminization of teaching staff, teacher remuneration, profession and working hours of teachers. The practical part is based on a research survey in the form of semi-structured interviews, which were attended by selected teachers of the 2nd level of primary school and representatives of the non-teaching public. The aim of the practical part was to find out how the addressed profession is viewed by the addressed teachers and several people from other professional fields. Teachers evaluate their profession as a demanding, important, but little valued profession in the eyes of the public. The addressed public respects most teachers and thinks that their social prestige should be higher.
